Engineered optical layers reshape how ultrathin gold films break apart under laser light
Dewetting of thin films is a phenomenon in which heat or laser irradiation destabilizes a continuous film, causing it to retract into nanoscale island-like structures. Compared to thermal dewetting, laser-induced dewetting ... 11/02/2026

Anti-CD44 Nanoplatform Targets Glioblastoma Cells With Dual Ferroptosis and Photothermal Therapy
Researchers developed a carboxymethyl cellulose-based immunonanosystem containing cobalt-substituted magnetite nanoparticles and anti-CD44 antibodies to target glioblastoma cells through enzyodynamic ferroptosis and photothermal therapy. In 2D cell cultures and 3D gliomaspheres, the system showed preferential activity against CD44-expressing glioblastoma cells, supporting further preclinical studies of its safety, delivery, and therapeutic performance. 10/30/2026

6-DOF MagLev Systems for Advanced Packaging Introduced at SEMICON West 2026, New From PI
PI (Physik Instrumente) introduced several magnetic levitation motion technology demonstrators at SEMICON West 2026. The platforms combine contact-free positioning with active control of all six degrees of freedom, eliminating mechanical bearing contact, lubrication, and bearing wear. 10/30/2026

Researchers showed that point-defect engineering can control how copper nanoparticles exsolve from perovskite oxides, influencing exsolution yield, particle size, nucleation density, and anchoring. The study also found that oxygen vacancies are consumed during exsolution and that lattice strain can eventually limit further nanoparticle formation. 10/29/2026

Hybrid Immune-Cell Nanoparticles Reduce Inflammation and Bone Loss in Periodontitis
Researchers developed NMm@MINO, a minocycline-loaded gelatin nanoparticle coated with hybrid neutrophil–macrophage membranes to tackle bacterial infection, inflammation, and periodontal tissue damage. In laboratory and rat experiments, the platform killed bacteria, altered inflammatory responses, promoted osteogenesis-associated processes, suppressed osteoclast activity, and reduced alveolar bone loss. 10/28/2026

Researchers used spark plasma sintering technology to deposit silver, zinc, and copper metal oxide nanoparticles directly onto thermoplastic starch/carboxymethyl cellulose films, then measured changes in mechanical strength, wettability, morphology, color, and thermal behavior. The treatment increased tensile strength and reduced surface wettability, with the results varying by metal and reflecting interactions between the deposited particles and polymer functional groups. 10/27/2026
