Lignin Nanoparticles Boost Oil Recovery by Tuning Rock Wettability at the Nanoscale
Researchers showed that size-controlled lignin nanoparticles made from alkali and kraft lignins can improve enhanced oil recovery by lowering interfacial tension and shifting sandstone and carbonate rocks toward more water-wet conditions. The intermediate-sized alkali lignin nanoparticles delivered the strongest sandstone performance, with recovery gains linked to a balance between wettability alteration, interfacial activity, and pore-network transport. 07/26/2026

Nanostructured titanium composites may enhance dental implants by providing antibacterial activity, enhanced bioactivity, corrosion protection, and localized drug-delivery capabilities. However, the review found that most evidence remains laboratory or preclinical, and long-term clinical studies are needed before these materials can move beyond established titanium implants. 07/26/2026
